أم نحن في الأصلِ أغبياءُ؟

And prophets rose on the earth,
They went away and the disaster stayed,
And your incurable disease remained.
Is it God’s judgment on us
Or are we fundamentally stupid?

Wie oft haben uns die predige ermahnt
Und Propheten erhoben sich auf die Erde?
Sie gingen weg und die Katastrophe blieb,
Und deine unheilbare Krankheit andauerte.
Ist es Urteil Gottes über uns
Oder sind wir grundsätzlich dumm?

ليس غبـاءً وليس حُـكمـاً
لكـنّـه المَـيْـنُ والرِّيـاءُ
*
مذْ يُولَد الطِّفلُ وَهْـوَ طُهْـرٌ
بصفحةٍ كلُّها صفـاءُ
*
يُنـقَـشُ فـيها كما يُشاءُ
زيـف وجهـل وكبريــاءُ
*
فَيـزحف العقلُ فـي ظلام
يَـبرَعُ في نَـشْرِه الأولياء
*
إنْ كانت الشّمسُ في كسوف
كيف إذاً يَسطَع الضياءُ؟

Abu-Alaa Al-Ma’arry
Neither dumbness nor judgment,
but lie and hypocrisy.
As the baby is born innocent,
With a blank slate,
Would be engraved as wanted;
With falsehood, ignorance and arrogance,
Then the mind will crawl in darkness,
Over which the guardians exercise control.
When the sun is in eclipse,
Then how does the light shine?

Weder Blödheit noch Beurteilung,
Sondern Lüge und Heuchelei.
Da das Baby unschuldig geboren würde,
Mit einem leeren Blatt,
Würde es wie gewünscht graviert,
Mit Falschheit, Unwissenheit und Arroganz,
Dann wird der Verstand in Dunkelheit kriechen,
Über die die Wächter die Kontrolle ausüben.
Wenn die Sonne in Sonnenfinsternis ist,
Wie scheint dann das Licht?
